About Dr. Shartriya Collier

With 22 years of experience as a K-12 Teacher, Professor, Director, and higher education Administrator, Dr. Collier has a track record of designing and implementing transformative programs that support, uplift, and encourage historically minoritized populations to excel in educational institutions and workplace contexts.  

Dr. Collier has a keen ability to develop cohesive plans, drawing upon an institution’s strategic goals and assessing the organizational strengths and weaknesses.

Dr. Collier’s comprehensive curriculum materials provide professional and impactful support to organizations looking to exceed their justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) goals. Dr. Collier comes from a line of civil rights activists - her efforts in the JEDI space are legacy-building, not only for her daughter but for future generations. She is the author and co-author of 5 books and over thirty academic articles related to social justice in education. She has trained and mentored hundreds of students, faculty, and families.

When Dr. Collier is not speaking, coaching, or writing, she is traveling with her daughter, DJing, singing, or performing poetry.

Dr. Collier has served as the Principal Investigator or co-PI writing and/or managing $8 million in grant funding. She has a roster of uniquely designed programs that teach families and students in K-20 contexts to celebrate cultural heritage, empower advocacy, and use social justice to catalyze community change.

Past programs:

  • Teaching the Acquisition of Language Through English and Storytelling (T.A.L.E.S) - a family literacy program that emphasizes literacy development, bilingualism, and a celebration of cultural identity

  • The Future Male Minority Teachers of California Program (F2MTC) - a summer bridge and support program designed to encourage the recruitment of Black and Latino males into teaching.

  • Sankofa - a program designed to support the recruitment and retention of Black students into higher education

Maximal Human Development

Introducting:

A term coined by Dr. Triya’s father and the name of her company Maximal Development LLC. It is the belief that the work she does, helps everyone reach their life’s purpose and full capacity, through education, creativity, compassion, courage, and empathy.

  • Coming from a family of 8, one of Dr. Triya’s goals is to remind people that they are not alone by connecting women, children, and families to other like-minded individuals with the promise of full self-actualization through education.

    Celebrating each other’s culture and artistic expression is paramount when building an intentional, spiritual connection that positively impacts the world.

  • Dr. Triya wants all children, families, and coaching clients to harness their inherent power and truly believe they can contribute to any space they are in.

    Dr. Triya's work is centered around debunking imposter syndrome. Everyone should be unapologetic about every aspect of who we are.

  • Dr. Triya helps businesses, families, and organizations develop creative solutions to educational problems through curriculum materials, books, courses, and family games that benefit the entire family or organization.

  • Dr. Triya takes joy in modeling for other women leaders and early career professionals how to build community and teams through designing strategies for having courageous conversations.

    Whether those conversations are centered around diversity, equity and inclusion, setting workplace norms, or building a school community.

    This work is accomplished through restorative justice practices, empathy, and other strategies to help clients relate to themselves and the world most authentically.
